The term "Carbon neutral" has been widely used in the past few years. Many believe this is one of the most important national policy for the Chinese government in their 14th Five-Year Plan Meeting. In fact, as early as 2006, the New Oxford American Dictionary named Carbon Neutral as the word of the year. The main reason this word has been selected is because the concept advocated by environmentalists around the world has gradually gained acceptance from the general public, it is also an important environmental action that has been valued by the US government.
To better understand the concept of carbon neutral, we first need to understand why carbon neutralization is required. Carbon dioxide or greenhouse gases cause global warming, many scientists believe we need to take action to neutralize carbon. In 2002 a large ice cube with the size of 3,250 square kilometres in Antarctica fell off and it melted completely within 35 days; and according to the latest data from NASA, Greenland’s ice field is disappearing on a yearly average of 221 cubic kilometres, the amount of ice melted is twice volume compared to 1996.
Tree planting is the best solutions for carbon dioxide to be neutralized.
To implement “carbon neutral” from its concept to our actual daily life, we need to consider the close tie relation to our economical activities and lifestyle. It will require each country to adopt new policies and economic adjustments, regulations on energy development and industrial production, as well as adjusting our lifestyle, these actions will have a direct or indirect impact on the reduction of carbon dioxide or greenhouse gas emissions. Together with tree planting and energy saving, it will help to offset carbon dioxide, moving towards zero emissions.
Aviation is considered one of the high carbon emission industry, at APERTUS we are committed to doing our part to protect our environment. In September 2020, through our DONATE Program, we partnered with Trees for All in The Netherland, over the past two decades their tree planting and forest restoration program has reached 13 countries.
We encouraged our customers to make donation via our various channels. Between September to December 2020, a total of 100 trees has planted through Trees for All program in Brabant and Limburg in The Netherlands, the Carara National Park in Costa Rica and Kibale National Park in Uganda. We will continue our support to Trees for All, our team is confident through this partnership we will contribute more to protect our environment.
We look forward to having more industry peer and customer join us in planting more trees.
